Wendy Lands – Bio 2018
Nominated for a Juno Award, 2 Canadian Radio Music Awards and The 2017 Cayle Chernin Award – singer-songwriter/recording artist Wendy Lands combines cool jazz, intimate theatre and freewheeling pop, to expertly craft original tunes that breathe smoky new air into the jazz genre. With her penchant for rich harmonies, poetic lyrics, sophisticated textures and killer musicianship, she has taken her jazz-kissed revelry to stages across Canada, Europe, and the USA.
Recently Lands was hand-picked by director Guillermo del Toro to sing in the Oscar-nominated motion picture, The Shape Of Water. Lands is currently work-shopping and birthing a new live musical offering – her musical memoir - entitled What the World Needs Now (A Journey Of Love & Hope Through The Mad Men Era) - which snagged her a Cayle Chernin Award nomination last spring - and finally - last summer brought a thrilling trip for Wendy Lands and her drummer-husband, Jim Gillard, halfway across the world, where she headlined at the esteemed Ladies International Jazz Festival - in Gdynia, Poland.
Lands’ Career highlights include being signed as an artist and/or songwriter to PolyGram, EMI, Universal Music Group, Fontana North, and Warner Chappell Music Publishing. She has co-written songs with Melissa Manchester, Paul Williams and The Jacksons among others, was chosen to record the companion album to the Oscar-winning film The Pianist and was a cast member in the original Canadian production of Les Miserables at the Royal Alex in Toronto. She has also been the voice behind over a thousand radio and TV commercials.
